Au Revoir BIT MESRA

15th may 2009

Tomorrow I will leave BIT forever , feeling bit nostalgic i must say. So i thought to do a blog entry for remembrance of this particular day n obviously last nyt @BIT. Our exams ended on 11th may n after that all those procedures of what they called filling NO DUES form ,U have to get it signed from each n every department ,yaa its true from that department also where u have never ever come across in these in 4 years.

20 july 2005 I still remember the day ,my first class @BIT. Everyone was quite tensed about ragging, all were in formals,dresscode introduced by seniors.We first year students were allotted Hostel no-6, its in between Hostel n0-7 and hostel no-5 old both were occupied by our seniors.
Neway it was very good experience to be ragged thinking we would also get the chance to do the same to our juniors.
Neway first year passed vd fun n masti n asking some weird questions like "why n how" sometime. After ragging ,its time for CLUB MEMBERSHIP n we become member of many clubs both knowingly n unknowingly.

But when we were in second year , RAGGING IN INSTITUTE CAMPUS IS PUNISHABLE CRIME (copy to all notice boards) :( . In second year we all were segregated into our respective branches. Now its time for us to catch our juniors to make them member of clubs.Second year passed doing all these club activities.

Then came the third year,its not the same as were the first two years everyone got engaged in preparing for campus placements.We all were quite apprehensive about placements this season due to global economic slow down .We took this challenge and finally we have one of the best placements this year in BIT.

Finally Our journey of BIT mesra came to end ,there was sign of happiness in all faces to start a new beginning but somewhere between them there was gloom of separating with each other.

I must say we have enjoyed a lot in these four years, experience some typical situations that we all shall use in future.Professional life gonna be bit different from LIFE we have lived at BIT.

All my bags r packed but I m not ready to go.

Google Telephonic Interview

So finally my interview for google recruitment process was scheduled on 22 january 11.30 pm IST by antara pathak HR frm Google ,India. I was scheduled to speak with Nirnimesh an engineer in Google USA.
Since signal strength was very low in my room I was ready with pen ,paper and ofcourse laptop in my friend Neeraj's room. I was waiting for his call in his room. Finally he called me at 11.45 pm IST ,15 minutes late from scheduled time . First of all he asked me to prepare with everything for this interview ,so he gave me 5 more minutes.
He started with my current final year project which i am doing.I told him about my project on Content based image retrieval ,its current status and my future work.He asked many tricky questions from this project.He then moved onto my summer project 'FILE SYSTEM' .It was mentioned in my resume which was given to him. Actually I had implemented the file system which was limited to main memory of computer.He asked me " why are you calling this file system". He then asked me to think to remove this limitation from file system.I told him my approach. He then told some features which could be implemented.

Finally He asked one coding question.I was asked to write a code for function which takes pointer to the root of a Binary tree not BST and return value of that element which occurs maximum number of times. Initially I gave him the solution which was of O(n^2) complexity.He asked me to optimise my algorithm.Finally I came with solution which was of (n) but space complexity got worse in this case. Finally he said he was running out of time and asked me if i had any questions to ask. I asked him to rate my interview. Also I asked him how to improve coding skills .He told me take part in topcoder competetions and other online coding contest.
He told me that Google India is an exact copy of Google USA and told that he would like to meet me in India if am selected for an offer.With this happy note my interview was winded .He grilled me at many occasions but I would say it was a great experience.
